Cystopteris, bladderferns, is a genus of 18 similar species in the family Athyriaceae, with a global distribution. One species, the brittle bladder fern, is native to Iceland and is common in all regions of the country.
Species native to Iceland and common in all regions. Hardy and easy to grow. Often grows in rock crevices where water trickles down. Like other ferns the brittle bladderfern grows best in shady conditions in humus rich soil. The size of the plant depends on how fertile the soil is.
